WASHINGTON They promised social conservatives they would promote morality and patriotism, and this past week Republican leaders in Congress tried to show they keep their word.

Judge rules trust fund off-limits to any abuse claims
PORTLAND (AP) - A federal bankruptcy judge has ruled that the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Portland cannot be forced to liquidate a $36 million trust fund to pay any claims resulting from sexual abuse lawsuits against priests.

Microsoft files more piracy lawsuits
Pirates rule at the box office this summer. But Microsoft is fighting them tooth and nail in the software business. It announced this week it filed 26 more lawsuits -- including two in New Jersey -- accusing companies of selling bogus or unlicensed ver sions of its products.

Edgewood residents, officials seek to change publicized problem On a recent weeknight in Edgewood, a small group of parishioners gathered in a strip mall sanctuary as the Rev. Tony McDonald talked about a crisis facing the community. Standing on a carpeted podium, surrounded by temporary walls in a converted retail store, McDonald said recent crime was a call to arms to spread the word of God.
