Independent - In July 1977 the editor and publishers of the newspaper Gay News were tried at the Central Criminal Court on a charge of blasphemous libel. Both were found guilty. The editor, Denis Lemon, was sentenced to nine months' suspended imprisonment and fined the publishers in this country - faith schools, the monarchy, blasphemy laws - are swept away
